Question by –S J E–: Replacing a laptop internal hard drive?i was browsing through laptops listed as spares/repair on eBay, and i realised that most laptops that were listed as being faulty because they had no hard drive. How hard is it to replace a laptop hard drive and what is needed? Is there settings that need to be tweaked in the BIOS page? Do i need an XP/Vista disk? and finally, can it be done by an amateur?

Answer by KarzYes, you can do it. fonerbooks.com/laptop_1.htmIt is generally easy to install XP on an IDE hard drive and either Vista or Windows 7 on a SATA hard drive.
But beware w/ faulty laptops. some may not have hard drive because that was the only working part that could be easily retrieved from a failed laptop. to be sure, get one that at least turns ON to opening screen and set up menu and detects the error that no HDD is detected. Such unit will most likely work right away after HDD and OS is installed.
